CHAPTER V - Different manners to knock and small shouts which answer them.

The knocks are a sort of preciousness.

We assimilate the sexual intercourse to a quarrel, because of thousand contrarieties which appear between lovers and from their arrangement to quarrel.

The parts of the body which we strike by passion are: shoulders, head, breast between bosoms, back, Jadgana, hips and sides.

We strike with the back of the hand, with the fingers gathered ( reunited ? ) in plug, with the palm of the hand, the fist.

When the woman receives a blow, she ( it ? ) makes different whistlings listen and eight sorts of small shouts:

Phra! Phat! Flat ( Dish ? ) Sout and; the thunderous shout, cooing him ( it ? ), the weeping.

The sound Phat imitates the sound of the bamboo which we split.

The sound Phut, the one that makes an object which falls in the water.

The women pronounce so certain words, such as:

Mother, Father, etc.

Sometimes it is shouts or words that express the defence, the desire of the separation, the pain or the approval.

We can add to these different exclamations the imitation of the humming of bees, cooing of the dove and the cuckoo, shout of the parrot, piaillement of the sparrow, whistling of the duck, the cascadette of the quail and the chuckle of the peacock.

The punches give themselves onto the back of the woman while she sits on the knees of the man; she has to riposte by pretending to be irritated and by pushing the cooing shout and the weeping.

During the connection, we look between both bosoms, with the lapel ( reverse ? ) of the hand, the small knocks which go by multiplying and by accelerating as the excitement increases, till the end of the union; at this moment we pronounce the repeated sound Hin, or the others alternately, or those whom we prefer in that case.

When the man strikes the head of the woman with the end of the gathered ( reunited ? ) fingers, he pronounces the sound Phat and the woman the cooing sound, and those Phat and Phut.

When we begin the kisses and the other preciousness, the woman always has to whistle.

During the excitement, when the woman is not used to the knocks, she pronounces constantly the words: enough, enough, finish and also those of father, mother, mixed ( involved ? ) by shouts and by groans, the thunderous and weeping sounds.

Towards the end of the union, we press strongly with the palm of hands bosoms, Jadgana or sides of the woman and this one makes, then, the whistling of the goose listen, or the cascadette of the quail.

We can count among the modes ( fashions ? ) to strike the custom ( usage ? ) of some particular instruments with certain parts of the country of India, mainly to those of the South:

The corner ( place ? ) between bosoms, scissors for the head, the perçoirs of cheeks (doubtless very fine needles). Vatsyayana condemns this custom ( usage ? ) as barbaric and dangerous, and he quotes grave and even mortal accidents as he caused.
